Suffering Hair Loss During Pregnancy?
Any woman who has been pregnant at one or more points in their life will agree that pregnancy has the natural ability to alter a woman’s body and even alter the way she feels about herself. Although, the phase of pregnancy is only temporary, several women undergo a lot of trauma because of their changed looks. Hair loss is one of the effects that are brought about by all the changes that take place. However, some women are privileged enough to be blessed with luscious and bountiful hair during pregnancy.
It cannot be said that all the changes that occur because of pregnancy is good. Some might be for the better but others might not be so. Almost every woman who is pregnant suffers from morning sickness and ironically, this sickness might not occur in the morning at all. Mood swings are also a common occurrence. Moreover, the soreness, pains, aches in the bones and waist principally, cravings for particular foods and so on puts a lot of pressure on a pregnant woman.
As a result of the varied amount of changes in the body, different parts of the body become sensitive, which includes the scalp and all the hair follicles in it. As the body undergoes a lot of change, the level of estrogen, which is an important hormone in the body, rises. Increased quantity of estrogen quickens the rate of metabolism in the body, which in turn influences the breakdown and production of nutrients in the body. Portions of these nutrients reach the scalp where the hair follicles are concentrated. This abundance of nutrients makes the hair to grow faster and fall out sooner. This causes a phenomenon in which the quickened rate of growth of hair results in the woman shedding her hair faster than the rate of re-growth.
Hair loss during pregnancy can also be a result of lack of proper nutrients in a woman’s diet. There are a lot of nutrients that is required by the body for a healthy body and a healthy hair. During pregnancy, the need for such nutrients increase manifold because of the growth of the baby in the womb. And so, extra supplements are required to better address the needs of the body. In addition, she should also consume a diet that is full of fruits and vegetables as they provide antioxidants.
To be able to determine properly the amount of vitamins and minerals required by the body during pregnancy, a doctor should be consulted to provide a chart.
