After it is thoroughly examine, the follicular units are transplanted on the patients bald areas. This procedure is time consuming and tedious and also cost twice as much as the cost of standard follicular unit transplant. Due to its time consuming nature, a physician is limited to transplanting only 400 to 500 follicular units in a day.

How Is a FUE transplant performed:

During the follicular unit extraction, a small one millimeter or less sized punch is used to excise the individual follicular unit grafts one at a time. To enable the physicians to see the patient’s scalp, the donor area where these grafts are taken out is cut short. Using multiple step processes, the follicular unit is extracted. At first, a sharp and small punch is used to score the skin around the follicular unit. Then, a dull punch is used to go deeper into the patient’s soft tissue that surrounds the follicular unit. While separating follicular units from the surrounding soft tissues, the small dull punch tends to envelope the follicular unit. This process is typically known as blunt dissection. After the follicular unit is separated from the surrounding soft tissue using dull punch, it can be extracted by gripping the hair using a forceps. The tiny wounds left after the extractions are not noticeable to the naked eye. It gradually heals resulting the tiny scars to become smaller and less visible.
