DHT and DHT Blocker
DHT or dehydrotestosterone is a biologically active metabolite, which is formed in hair follicles, testes and adrenaline glands. They are commonly known as androgenic hormones or testoids. DHT stimulates and controls the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics. DHT is responsible for male pattern hair loss and prostrate problems. It is also 3 times more potent than testosterone. It is formed by the chemical reaction of the enzyme called 5-alpha- reductase found in the skin and scalp with testosterone hormones inside our body. DHT takes over the receptor cell, which in turn interrupts the functioning of cell forming hair follicles. It shortens the growth cycle of hair and causes male pattern baldness by gradually making the hair follicles smaller. This in turn makes the hair to become comparatively thin and gradually disappears. DHT affects both men and women regardless of age.
Hair loss caused by DHT is hereditary in nature and is determined by how sensitive a man is to DHT. The more DHT you have in your body, the more you will experience hair loss. There are several treatments to counter hair loss caused by DHT. To prevent or treat hair loss, the amount of DHT concentration should be decreased. One of the simplest and commonly used treatments is DHT blocker. It is available in the market in the form of pills and shampoos. Three of the most commonly used DHT blockers are Hairgenesis, Procerin and Avacor. Using Avacor in the form of shampoos and pills together is found to be helpful as it stimulates the growth of hair by blocking the DHT. DHT blockers work in such a way that it prevents the chemical reaction between 5-alpha- reductase enzymes and testosterone from taking place.
The temporal area and the crown area is the first area on the scalp where men experience hair loss. This is due to the concentration of certain sweat glands on the area that carry DHT.
Hairgenesis stops DHT from forming inside our body. It can be taken in the form of pills as well as can be used as topical forms. Procerin is found in the form of pills that are taken twice a day, or as directed by the physician. Unlike hairgenesis, procerin contains a combination of herbs, which includes saw palmetto and chemical treatments such as minoxidil. However, among all the DHT blockers, hairgenesis is considered one of the best, as it is an FDA approved product.
